A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
