Mikel Arteta feels assured that his side can continue to cope with injury setbacks after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for several more weeks.
Extended Absence for Havertz
The German forward has been sidelined for months due to knee surgery. Originally slated to come back sooner, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when stepping up his training and could not progress “the required stage.”
“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.
Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture
This news leaves a dilemma for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return from a muscle injury as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains available after 11 months out.
Defensive Concerns Linger
Additional concerns involve centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to continue in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.
The manager is convinced the significant outlay on new players in the last transfer window has placed the club in a more robust situation to navigate such setbacks.

When asked if increased squad depth was aiding their championship push, the manager agreed. “Yes, because this season has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the defence,” he continued.
“We learned from the past that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at this level. And the example of Mikel Merino.”
Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Star
Commenting on the delay previously mentioned by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided more insight. “He followed all protocols. He could not go to the subsequent stage and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”
He shared his personal desire to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, personally, I admire greatly for his contributions to the team, but his character, his attitude. I watch him struggle on the sidelines.”
