Cameron Norrie achieved the biggest success of his career by coming back from a early deficit to beat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the early stage of the prestigious indoor tournament.

Although he had previously beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph marks Norrie's first ever success over a reigning world number one.

"Enormous. So big for me," said Norrie, who joins as the fifth British man in history to defeat a top-ranked player. "Bouncing back from health issues last year, I fell in the opening stage of qualifying rounds here. I just aimed to embrace my game in the second half of the year. To get a victory like this, it's the biggest victory of my career, my initial victory over the world No 1 and likely the strongest competitor in the tennis scene right now."

The British player, seeded 31st in the world, also halted Alcaraz's dominant run of nine consecutive finals and 17 straight elite tournament successes, which marked the best series of results in the Spanish star's early professional path.
