Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has joined Sheffield United only half a year following instigating disrespectful chants targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds concluded through agreement this past summer.
One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting insulting songs regarding Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the former England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to rescue the team he loves away from the drop zone.
Past History Between Bamford & Wilder
Both men had history prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Moving Forward
Everything appears to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
Latest Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 games for Leeds last season but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has struggled with injury in recent years.
