Torrential Precipitation Exacerbate Circumstances for Evacuated Palestinians in Gaza, UN Alert
Persistent rains over the past week have worsened the precarious living conditions of the hundreds of thousands of displaced residents in the territory, as reported by relief organizations.
"Awful" Night Brings Grave Dangers
A representative characterized the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with precipitation so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.
"These conditions was really horrendous for the people. The heavy rains were so strong... And the gales were so powerful," stated the representative.
Officials express significant worry that children living in makeshift shelters in wet garments will succumb to hypothermia and additional ailments.
Deaths and Significant Damage
Medical officials have reported that one baby has died from hypothermia and no fewer than 11 other people have lost their lives in structural failures due to the severe weather.
Additional accounts put a greater fatality count. Authorities reported that multiple structures had totally fallen and dozens had been partly destroyed.

Aid Distribution Deemed Inadequate
